Last year I did a story on the Summerville Miracle League, a new organization giving kids with disabilities a chance to play baseball. The look on the faces of the kids as they run the bases on a custom-made baseball field is amazing. Many volunteer their time Saturday mornings so these kids can play a sport many of us take for granted.
The league is special to our family since Joshua, diagnosed with Autism, plays for the Buccaneers. Every Saturday, he is so excited to head out to the games. His favorite part of the game is hitting the ball and running around the bases.
On April 16-17, they will be having a BBQ for Baseball fundraiser to benefit the Miracle League. In this instance, volunteering is as easy as buying a ticket to go enjoy some BBQ and bluegrass music.
Come out to watch them play on Saturday mornings or you can contact the Summerville Miracle League and volunteer to help during the season. They are always looking for “buddies” to get on the field and help the players.
